about

Sierra Leonean pop superstar, Bajah (Bajah + the Dry Eye Crew), is releasing his first solo 7” vinyl through label, Someplace Called Brooklyn. A mixture of contemporary West African sounds, “Breaking My Heart”, is a mixture of 90’s dancehall reggae, afro beats and the current leanings of the naija movement. Produced by Gabriel “Teleseen” Cyr, the selection is certain to be a dancefloor pleaser for the summer. With its optimistic and uplifting riddim alongside the bittersweet tones of heartbreak sung deftly by Bajah, “Breaking My Heart” creates instant nostalgia.

Often referred to as the Sean Paul of West Africa with the social conscience of Bob Marley and Fela Kuti, Bajah hails from the throes of the brutal decade-long civil war in Sierra Leone. “Breaking My Heart” is Bajah’s first single as a solo artist, and stands at a cross section of the contemporary sounds of his homeland and the progressive sounds of global culture as it can only be expressed in Brooklyn, via Teleseen’s keen eye toward dancefloor-pleasing fusion. Says the artist, “We talk about love. We talk about life, social problems. Music is about life.”

Get ready for the song of the summer.
